Unless you have served in the military, law-enforcement or security, or grew up in a home where one of these was present, you have probably not had anyone speak to you about your personal safety since 6th grade. Think about it. And even when this was done, it was often through the mediums of puppets, talking dogs, jingles, and coloring books. Fast-forward to today and the stories we see almost nightly on the news. There has been no “continuing education” over the years, which has led to many of the stories we see. People are operating in a vacuum related to their safety and security.
For parents, this information is essential as it carries two main benefits: (1) it helps make “mom and dad” safer by giving them strategies to live by themselves, and (2) it thus provides a platform for their kids/teens to “model” seeing mom and dad living by the same standards themselves.
This presentation offers four (4) basic yet key concepts pertaining to how we go about assessing both people and situations we can find ourselves in, seemingly innocent or benign circumstances, but ones that could represent a hidden agenda or a situation that could escalate quickly into violence. There is also a special version of this same presentation for adult employee groups at companies, equally applicable.
