With safety on and off campus being the #1 concern of most parents as their daughters go off to college, or even leave the home after graduation for vocational work, this seminar is a must!
The purpose of this two-hour seminar is to foster critical thinking skills related to the personal safety of young women graduating from high school. The first hour is devoted to “external” concerns such as random or typical social encounters, parties and clubs, travel during breaks, and work on or off campus. The second hour is devoted to more “internal” concerns related to dating, including the early warning signs of domestic violence, and strategies to help identify and mitigate such risks. Also included is a quick tutorial on various “devices” sold on the market as well as their individual pros and cons related to personal safety.
This seminar is not taught by PowerPoint, but by worksheets. Participants are lead through various Q&A exercises to learn (a) how they currently assess threat, then (b) how those current processes might be changed to enhance their personal safety. In other words, participants continually interact with the subject matter to develop their own unique critical thinking skills versus simply sitting through a lecture.
In addition to the worksheets, participants also receive a complimentary book from Defense By Design to compliment their training experience.
The unique feature of this seminar is the fact it is offered (and encouraged) as a “Mother/Daughter” event. Moms are often the sounding boards for their daughters at college, so it is imperative that if your daughter is bringing up points of concern, you (mom) be on the same page of learning to encourage and advise her more effectively.
Obviously the target group for this particular seminar will be graduating high school senior girls and their mothers. However, these events may be offered, hosted, or sponsored by any of the following (or any combination of the following):
